Natopiwo Partners

A Story of Cross-Cultural Connections

Moses “Musa” Kamaika Meng’arana is a Maasai elder, cultural guide, researcher, teacher, and development expert who founded Natopiwo to strengthen Maasai communities' resilience and wellbeing. Born and raised in Monduli Juu, Musa has been connecting visitors to area Maasai communities through leading research, cultural exchange, and study-away programs for decades.

In 2017, Musa launched the Natopiwo Preschool under a tree with a handful of students and him as the sole teacher. Under his leadership, the preschool has expanded exponentially and is now an NGO, Natopiwo, which has grown to become the preeminent, grassroots organization for community-led education, environmental conservation, and gender justice projects in the Monduli Juu area.

In early 2024, a group of passionate individuals (now our esteemed board) with deep connections to northern Tanzania and the Maasai communities in Monduli Juu, came together to support these communities through fundraising and collaborative efforts. They formed the nonprofit Natopiwo Partners in order to provide additional support for  Musa, Natopiwo, and the Maasai people. In August of 2024 Natopiwo Partners was designated by the IRS as a tax-exempt public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The purpose of Natopiwo Partners, as specified in our Articles of Incorporation, is to collaborate with Natopiwo.org and the people of Tanzania to promote educational, social, and environmental wellbeing in Tanzania. We are committed to serving as allies in the broadest sense of the word, providing financial, practical, and moral support for initiatives conceived and carried out by the Natopiwo team and their partners in Tanzania.
